Tips for a Good Digital Signature

Use a touchscreen if possible

Drawing with your finger on a phone or tablet produces a more natural result than using a mouse. A stylus on an iPad or Galaxy Tab gives the best quality — closest to pen on paper. If you only have a mouse, draw slowly and steadily.

Sign at the right size

Sign at a size similar to how you sign on paper. The canvas gives you room. If you sign too small, the exported image will be low resolution when enlarged. If you sign too large, the proportions may look off in a document.

Use black or dark blue ink

Black and dark blue are the standard colors for signatures on documents. Light colors may not show up well when printed or displayed on light backgrounds.

Try multiple times

Your first attempt may not look like your usual signature. Use the clear button and try again. Most people get a good result within 2-3 attempts. The tool is instant — there is no cost to retrying.

Your signature is drawn on an HTML5 canvas element in your browser. The drawing exists only in your browser memory while the tab is open. When you download the image, it saves to your device. When you close the tab, the canvas data is gone.
