What the Calculator Shows You

When You Need This Calculator

Before Selling

Thinking about selling a position? Enter your buy price (check your broker app for cost basis) and the current market price. See if the profit justifies selling or if you should hold for a better price.

After Selling

Need to know your exact gain for tax records? Enter the actual buy and sell prices plus any fees. The calculator gives you the precise profit number you need for Schedule D.

Evaluating a Trade Idea

Considering a stock at $45 with a price target of $60? Enter hypothetical numbers to see if the potential profit is worth the risk. Try different share quantities to find the right position size.

Comparing Trades

Which trade was better: 50 shares of Stock A at $100→$130 or 200 shares of Stock B at $25→$31? Run both through the calculator. Stock A: $1,500 (30% ROI). Stock B: $1,200 (24% ROI). Same capital, different returns.

Zero-Commission Brokers

Robinhood, Webull, Fidelity, Schwab, and most major brokers now offer $0 commission on stock trades. But fees still exist:

These are tiny on most trades but add up on large positions. Enter them in the commission fields for exact numbers.
